The 4-Legged Owl Stool brings together ergonomic design and enduring craftsmanship in a single, all-wood piece. The cherry seat is hand-sanded and tung oil-finished, shaped to ease spine tension and sitting pressure through our patented postural support design. Ash legs provide stability and strength, grounded in the same Maine woodworking tradition that has defined every Owl Stool since 2009.
Choose between the Classic seat—contoured sides for passive, upright sitting—or the Pro seat, with rounded front corners and greater lateral leg mobility for those who need more range of motion. Available in heights from 18" to 32" to suit desks, dining tables, kitchen counters, and bar-height surfaces. As a general rule, your stool should sit approximately 12" below the top of your work surface. If you're unsure which height is right for your space, reach out. We're glad to help.
Note: The 18" stool does not include stretchers. See photos for reference.
An optional lumbar support is available for any height configuration. Every 4-Legged Owl Stool is made to order.

Wood Materials Proper care ensures a lifetime of use from your furniture. Should your piece fail during the life of the original owner due to workmanship on wood materials, we will gladly repair or replace it. Some special-order wood species may be excluded. This guarantee does not apply to improper use, accidents, normal wear and tear, alteration, improper cleaning, or commercial use. There is a BIFMA-tested 300 lb weight limit.
Improper Use The Owl Stool is designed to encourage healthy sitting postures, as demonstrated. Habitual tipping back on the lumbar support, or sitting off-center in the postural support holes, can strain the bolt connections that hold the seat to the base. If the threaded inserts are ripped from the wood grain at this connection point, it is considered improper use and falls outside our warranty coverage. We're glad to repair the damage at our cost, plus shipping—please reach out before sending your stool back to us.
The 4-Legged Owl Stool is made to order with current lead times of 16–20 weeks.
If your product arrives damaged, please notify us right away and provide pictures of the stool and box as they arrived. These photos are essential to our insurance process with UPS. Please keep all original parts and packaging together until you hear from us.
We stand behind our craftsmanship and wood materials for five years to the original owner. Because wood responds differently across environments over time, any issues that arise after five years will be addressed gladly at a slight cost.
We offer a 30-day return policy from the date of delivery. See Returns + Exchanges for undamaged products for full details.
Volume discounts are available on wooden-legged stool orders. Orders of five or more receive 5% off; orders of 10 or more receive 15% off. To place a volume order, please visit our Volume Sales page to get in touch.
We also work closely with designers, trade partners, businesses, and institutions on larger and ongoing furnishing needs, with tailored pricing and support based on the scope of each project. If you have a current or future project in mind, learn more about our commercial relationships or reach out directly. We'd love to hear about it.
Find Your Seat Shape
Two Approaches to Better Sitting
The Classic and Pro seat are two expressions of the same patented ergonomic design, each shaped to suit your distinct posture and style of work. Find the seat that suits you.
-
Classic Owl Seat
- 4° forward tilt
- Contoured hip and leg support
- Postural support holes
- Relaxed and passive
The Classic seat features up-sloped sides and a concave front support system that cradles the pelvis at the optimal angle for proper spinal alignment. A 4° forward tilting angle distributes weight evenly across the hips and legs, while postural support holes ease spine tension and relieve sitting pressure during long hours of use. This is best suited for those who sit passively, straight and tall.
-
Pro Owl Seat
- 5° forward tilt
- Greater range of leg motion
- Postural support holes
- Active and forward-leaning
The Pro seat features rounded front corners and a 5° forward pitch that encourages a more active, forward sitting posture. The leveled outer corners allow a greater range of leg motion, making it well-suited for dynamic work environments. Postural support holes ease spine tension and relieve sitting pressure, consistent with the same ergonomic standard as the Classic seat.
